Welcome. If you are looking for new patient information at a Carrollton dentist office, for yourself or for a parent, we are glad you found us. Josey Lane Dentistry focuses on caring for Seniors, Super Seniors, and medically complex patients, and we want every first visit to feel calm, clear, and unhurried. Patient-centered care

Why New Patients and Families Choose Josey Lane Dentistry

Many of our new patients are older adults who want a dentist who understands the changes that come with age. Others are adult children looking for a gentler, more experienced team for a parent. Some have avoided the dentist for years. All of them are welcome.

Dr. Melissa Scaggs, DDS, MAGD, holds Master status in the Academy of General Dentistry, is a Dementia Certified Practitioner, and has focused on senior patient care since 2014. Dr. Lindsay Penchan, DDS, focuses on root canals and tooth extractions. Together with our hygiene team, they take time to explain conditions and options in plain language and recommend conservative, individualized treatment. You can read what patients say on our patient testimonials page.

Before your visit

Before Your First Visit

Complete Your Forms

You can complete new patient paperwork from home on our patient forms page. Filling it out ahead of time, with a family member's help if you like, means less time on a clipboard and more time talking with your dentist.

Gather What to Bring

  • A photo ID and your dental insurance card, if you have one
  • A complete, current list of medications and supplements, with doses
  • Names and phone numbers for your physicians
  • Your dentures, partials, or night guard, even if you do not wear them
  • Recent dental X-rays or records, if available
  • Healthcare power of attorney information, if someone helps make your medical decisions

Tell Us What Will Help

When you call to schedule, let us know about anything that will make the visit easier: memory changes, hearing or vision loss, mobility needs, a walker or wheelchair, anxiety, or the time of day you feel best. We will plan around it.

First visit

What to Expect at Your First Visit

01

A warm welcome.

Our team greets you, reviews your forms, and answers questions. Family members and caregivers are welcome to join with the patient's permission.

02

A health and medication review.

We go over your medical history carefully, because it shapes every recommendation we make.

03

A gentle, thorough exam.

We check your teeth, gums, any dental work or dentures, and perform an oral cancer screening. We take digital X-rays or panoramic images when needed.

04

Seeing what we see.

Intra-oral camera photos let you and your family see exactly what we are talking about.

05

A clear conversation.

We explain our findings in plain language, separate what is urgent from what can be watched, and discuss your options.

06

A plan that fits you.

We recommend care based on your health, function, and quality of life, and give you time to think it over.

If you feel anxious, tell us. We can slow down, take breaks, or discuss nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation. You can also browse our full range of services to see the care we provide.

Insurance, Payment, and Scheduling

Our staff will help verify your benefits and file insurance claims directly. We also accept checks and most major credit cards, offer a cash discount, and offer CareCredit and other financing options. See our insurance and financing page for details.

We are open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Many older patients feel their best in the morning, and our early start helps adult children bring a parent before work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my adult child or caregiver come with me?
Yes. With your permission, family members and caregivers are welcome to join your visit, hear our findings, and ask questions. Many patients find it reassuring to have another set of ears.
What if I don't have dental insurance?
You do not need insurance to be seen. We accept checks and most major credit cards, offer a cash discount, and offer CareCredit and other financing. Our team will review costs with you before any treatment begins.
How do I fill out new patient forms before my visit?
Visit our Patient Forms page to complete them online through our secure portal. If you would rather fill them out in person, arrive 15 to 20 minutes early. Call 972-242-1592 if you need help.
What if my parent has dementia or trouble with long appointments?
Call us before the first visit so we can learn about your parent's routines and needs. Dr. Melissa Scaggs is a Dementia Certified Practitioner, and we can keep the visit short, schedule at the best time of day, and focus on what matters most.
