A Trick Up Our Sleeve: Restorative Dentistry

For the vast majority of our patients, we have the pleasure of seeing them twice a year for their bi-annual cleaning. Trust us, we like it that way since that indicates you’re keeping up your oral health routine and have no other pressing issues that need to be addressed!

However, if you do find yourself needing other oral health services (particularly those that can restore your quality of life as well as your smile), we also offer several treatment plans that are all taken care of by our team in-house.

Many of our patients have raised concerns that they might need to seek alternative or specialty care for the treatment and management of missing or damaged teeth or other oral diseases. We believe in holistic patient relationships and continuity of care, so we are pleased to offer full restorative dental care to all our patients right here at Josey Lane.

If you are suffering or concerned about the state of your mouth, call us today for a consultation and we can work collaboratively with you to create a treatment plan!

What restorative dentistry services are there?

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry involves the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of oral diseases. If you suffer from decay, discolored, chipped or missing teeth, then a compressive plan restorative dental plan could rehabilitate your lifestyle and allow you to feel confident once more about your smile.

What can be expected?

The need for a comprehensive restorative dental plan can be determined at a normal bi-annual appointment. Your dentist will use a combination or visual and mechanical techniques to examine and determine the health of your teeth and mouth. In severe cases, you may be referred to an oral surgeon or endodontist; however, at Josey Lane we are happy to provide most services in-house.

What restorative services are offered at Josey Lane?

The most common restorative procedure we offer at Josey Lane is fillings. A filling is a way to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay and bring it back to health. Receiving a filling is a relatively painless procedure that involves the dentist removing the decay from the tooth, then cleaning the affected area, and finally filling the area in.

Many patients suffer from whole tooth loss and are unsure about a treatment plan. Our office offers both bridges and dental implants to patients. Bridges are a common prosthetic replacement of one or more natural teeth. Generally, they’re created to “bridge” the space of a missing tooth. For a more permanent solution, dental implants will replace missing teeth by implanting a titanium screw into the jaw bone. A tooth is then manufactured to match the patient’s original teeth. Implants allow a patient the most natural look and feel.

Finally, if it is determined that there is no way to save an infected tooth, then it’s time to discuss extraction. This is done only when all other avenues are explored. The team at Josey Lane will discuss how to care for the area post-extraction as well as options for implants or bridges when the area has healed.

Do you have services to prevent the need for restorative dentistry?

The best prevention is strict adherence to a good oral health routine. Many of the diseases associated with tooth loss or decay result from bacterial plaque building up along the gum line and infecting the tooth and its root. In order to stop this progression, it’s important to brush and floss twice a day as well as make bi-annual appointments with your dentist for cleanings.

For our patients that are athletes, we also offer custom sports mouth guards. Trauma to the mouth can cause roots to die and teeth to be extracted. If anyone in your family is an athlete, you should discuss the need for a mouth guard with us today.
